Project description
I spearheaded the design of a new data entry experience for my org's suite of Fintech products. The outdated table system hindered productivity, leading to customer dissatisfaction. My work bridged the gap between user needs and technical feasibility, creating a scalable solution that could be used across all AWS products.
Process & Solution
Identifying Ownership Opportunities
I recognized a gap in the existing user experience and took the initiative to design a data entry-focused table, addressing key pain points like the lack of copy & paste functionality, advanced filtering, and column manipulation.
Info Gathering
By gathering user feedback and brainstorming with the entire Fintech UX team, I ensured my solution would directly address customer frustrations across all AWS Fintech's products.
Building Trust and Collaboration
By partnering with designers and engineers from three additional teams, I ensured the MVP of the Data Grid met diverse product requirements while aligning with long-term goals.
Detail Obsessed
I iterated on the design through reviews, created detailed documentation, and collaborated with our Common Patterns team to drive consistency in implementation across products.
Scaling the Impact
I designed the Data Grid as a reusable Cloudscape (AWS Design System) component, enabling adoption beyond AWS Fintech to all AWS teams.
Results & Learnings
Global Adoption
The Data Grid has been adopted by seven AWS Fintech product teams, with plans to expand usage to Amazon's company wide Headcount Management tool in 2025, potentially impacting thousands of hiring managers globally.
Collaboration & Evangelization
Evangelizing the Data Grid within the Fintech org was critical for its success. By positioning it as an AWS wide component, I fostered collaboration and shared ownership among stakeholders.
North Star Vision
Designing a North Star vision first for this component helped secured buy-in for future product improvements. After the MVP launch in late 2023, this vision set the stage for a robust v2 to be developed incrementally in 2024.
